Stand by you

In March 2025, on the day Garyū Shōrai was completed at Takehiko Sugawara’s atelier, I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. and Mrs. Sugawara. During our conversation, I learned that their son was also an artist, and they kindly offered to show me several of his works displayed outdoors. It was there that I encountered “Stand by You” (Japanese title: Tonari ni Ite Ageru — “I’ll Be by Your Side”), a piece by Riku Sugawara.
We placed “Stand by You” on a bench beside the outdoor tennis court, where it now watches over the entire AERO property with the contemplative gaze of a philosopher.
